Hello all... I've been trying a while now with Novashell but I get somewhat annoyed of the lua scripting. I know it's used in many games, but as a C++ programmer this scripting method feels so confusing.

What do you guys think? Maybe I just have done too little with it to judge it yet.

Give me some advices how to get adjusted with it!

Thanks.

-By the way, kudos to you Seth and good luck! :)

I'm a c/c++ programmer myself. Just use the examples. I mean you pretty much know how to program. It's simply a matter of adjusting to lua's idiosyncrasies. Such as including a then on your if statement and closing it with an end, instead of using brackets.

Considering you're controlling small aspects of the program and not a whole program itself, it shouldn't be that hard.

Also check the tutorials here -

And the online lua book here -

Yeah, I can sympathize, I have to switch from lua to C++ all the time and it's a little bit brain-bending.

Thanks for those links for tutorials, I'll examine them carefully. :)

Personally I think NovaShell hits the sweet spot between scripts/configurability and ease of use. That may be because I am NOT a progranner of any description. What would make it totally sweet would be a totally integrated development environment ala Visual Studio, but of course I'd rather bugs were fixed an new features were implemented in the engine before that happened!
