I can't get past the monster in the cave

i can't kill the monster in the cave northwest of Dink's village. I've tried the hit-and-run tactic, and i've gotten stuff out of barrels, but i can't kill it, which i need to to do to get to terris. any tips or simple cheats? i've tried everything!

Hit and run is about it... and this is the point to get the practice in as that is about the only tactic you can use in Dink usually. Unless you want to resort to cheating... in which case there is a thing called the ultimate cheat over at the Dink Network http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
