Saving Milder? Beating the Evil guy? HELP

okay...what am I missing here? I can't figure out how to kill the guy who is in the cave with Milder. Fireballs don't work...neither does the sword...well not well enough. What do I have to use against him?
Someone please help me...I can't find a walkthrough that has a good link...

No, not really. Just make sure you have the best sword and keep trying, took me 3 goes if I recall correctly. Oh, having that, was it a healing potion, comes in handy.
