    Default Fullscreen problems

I have released game that uses Clanlib 0.8.0 and some players have problems with fullscreen mode. Windowed mode works ok. There seems to be two main issues so far:

    1. Everything on screen is up-side down

    2. Fonts are not visible

What could be the explanation for this? I've personally never experienced those issues.

    1. This has been reported earlier on these forums (do a search if you're interested), but no solution exists yet. It seems to happen to users with onboard-intel graphic chips, but none of the developer has this and have no way of reproducing it

    2. I see your font files are very wide randing from 1500 to 4000. If I recall correctly ClanLib loads the font into a Power-of-two texture. So your largest font will require a texture with the size 4096x64. A number of graphic cards only support 2048x2048 textures, so this might be the problem. I'd try putting the font on multiple lines - maybe you can fit it into a 256x256 or a 512x512 texture.

I could be totally wrong about point 2, though. Been so long since I looked at how fonts are loaded in 0.8.x

Ok, I'll try to use smaller textures. How about this then:

"Just for information, ATI graphics on Vista work just fine - no crashes
at all - the only issue being that the background of the buttons ("Main
Menu", "Generate", "Exit Game" et al...) isn't rendered properly (it's
all scrunched up above the button text). The buttons function just
fine, though, and the pre-game screens are the only place this appears.

Also, on Vista / ATI, the "Armored Brigade" logo isn't there. The
    background appears, but no text."

I tried this myself with Vista and GeForce 8400, it was the first time ever I used Vista. I didn't experience issues mentioned above but the game was much slower than with any other machine I've tried it. I don't remember the exact system specs but it was brand new 2GHz laptop. Otherwise it worked fine except crashed every time when I exited game in fullscreen mode. That didn't happen in windowed mode.

How is it actually possible to use multiple lines in font textures? Clanlib overview seems to recommend 2000x50 sized texture.

Hm... I thought the alpha font cutter supported multiple lines automatically, but I could remember wrong.

2048 sized textures are pretty safe to use - 4096 is not I'm afraid. Can you fit the font into a 2048x? texture?

The only image that was over 2000 was not in use.. but I cropped these as small as possible, sent to the guy who had the problem, and it worked! Very nice!
