Default Clanlib 0.8.1 & Visual Studio 2008 Breakpoints

    Hello,

I am using Clanlib 0.8.1 with Visual Studio 2008 and I am having trouble with exiting the program screen and looking at breakpoints when running an application.

Whenever I place a break point in my code and execute the app, the program halts at the break point but I am unable to switch windows to the VS debugger screen. This in turn locks up the app and I am forced to halt it via task manager.

Has anybody else had this problem and found a solution?

I have been unable to find anything in the forums pertaining to this.

    Thanks
    Angelo

I have this occasionaly when debugging applications using visual studio 7.0, usually a reboot cures the problem, then I can debug as normal.

I am not sure what causes it.

    A couple of suggestions:
Could using multiple threads in the application be the cause?
    Update the graphics card driver
I would also say, update directx, but since you are using ClanLib 0.8 there's no point.

Finally, check the visual studio service pack: (see
    http://www.clanlib.org/docs/clanlib-...dows-msvc.html )

    Thanks for your reply.

My current application is very simple (no multi-threading yet).

I wlll try these suggestions asap and hopefully it will solve my issues

I updated VS as well as my video driver but I am still having the issue.

I am running winxp pro, and using an NVidia 8800gt video card.

This problem only occurs when I start in full screen mode. If I don't use full screen, then break points work fine.

Is there anything else I can try to alleviate the problem?

    Thanks

    Don't debug in fullscreen mode.

Virtually all games today have a windowed mode command line parameter simply because its hell for its developers to attempt to debug in fullscreen mode, and if your game hangs in fullscreen there's a high chance you will have to reboot your computer (bad OS design from MS, but that's how it is).

Or buy a cheap 2nd monitor, I think your graphic card supports 2 monitors.

i.e. 1st monitor is your app, the 2nd monitor is visual studio.

It seems to work on my pc, unless your application changes the screen resolution.

But it may not work on your pc

Although I haven't tested it, I unfortunately don't think a 2nd monitor helps much when using DirectX fullscreen. If I remember correctly, the second monitor displays pretty much garbage data when in fullscreen (another great OS design, but instead of fixing that we get ribbons in mspaint ).

    Thanks for your reply's.

If a second monitor would work, I would pick one up. (Monitors are pretty cheap these days.) But if not, no big deal - Debugging works great when not in full-screen mode and I am fine with working that way.

Since I am very new to clanlib / 2D programming in windows, I didn't know if I was doing something incorrectly that caused the issue.

    Thanks again for your help
