Thread: tarball contains font file with a problematic licence

Default tarball contains font file with a problematic licence

    The file ClanLib-2.0.1/Examples/DiceWar/Resources/accid___.txt has an
unusual license which prohibits receiving any consideration for (re)distribution of the file, which makes it difficult to use upstream tarball directly without modifications in Linux distribution.

    I see your point:

    The text file says:
"For the full set of terms of use (which override what is listed here), go to http://www.fontframe.com/tepidmonkey/ and visit the Terms of Use section
It is odd. In my opinion, it is saying that the terms is on the web site, and may change at any point.

First, there are no terms of use listed on the web site, and secondly, I can't find the font on the site!

I can see why linux distros would run a mile.

If you have any pointers to collections of free fonts I can try replacing it with, I am open for suggestions.

    I use dafont.com search:

http://www.dafont.com/top.php - click "More Options" link and select "Public Domain / GPL" checkbox

Even accid___.ttf is there (http://www.dafont.com/accidental-presiden.font), but the License is "Free" and as we see, "Free" is often not enough for redistribution.

(Note, when changing the font, Examples/Font and the Example/Input borrow the Font from the ../Dicewar/Resources directory. I don't think any other examples use it, but it's better to check

That's the only one close to the accid font I could find on http://www.dafont.com/top.php . Most of the "GPL'ed" ones listed did not have a license attached to it.

    /me hates fonts!
