Latest SVN version now contains a small example on how to create your own sprite class.

It is a continuation of the HSV example that show how to do your own shader to allow rendering sprites with a hue offset. The HSV Sprite example adds speed by batching up to 512 sprite draw commands before sending them to the GPU.

The example implements the batching using the CL_RenderBatcher framework in ClanLib, which makes the batching cooperate with the internal batching within the library. This means the batching is automatically flushed whenever something within ClanLib start rendering, such as a call to gc.flip(), sprite.draw() or font.draw_text().

I hope the 2200 framerate is acceptable. That's on a Nvidia 8800 GTX card.
