Default How to not get scammed - GUIDE [UPDATED]

    Hey everyone,

There are a lot of people out there playing Growtopia who don't know what scamming is. In this guide I want to learn you what scamming is, so that you can avoid getting scammed.

    What is scamming?
Scamming is basically just lying about something. Example dialog:

Scammer: "I'll give you access to my world if you give me a dirt seed"
    Victim: "Okay!"
*Victim gives dirt seed to scammer"
*Scammer bans victim instead of giving access*

Above is a very common example of scamming. In this case, the scammer lied about giving access to the victim. The victim didn't know he was lying, so he payed him a dirt seed. After that the scammer bans the victim, and the scammer got a free dirt seed.

In this case it's "just" a dirt seed, but it can be way worse than that.

    Definitions
In the following part of this post are some things you might not understand. They are listed here, in the definitions section.

    Duct-tape(d)
A punishment that will last for a certain amount of time, set by the punisher. It gives you visible duct-tape over your mouth. It also muffles your speech, so when you're trying to say something all that happens is "mff mf mmf mfmfffff". You also can't use certain commands that let you communicate with others, like /me [message], /msg [player][message], /broadcast [message], /sb [message]. Also you can't write on signs.

    Mute(d)
A punishment that will last for a certain amount of time, set by the punisher. You can't see if someone's muted or not, only suspect it, because he/she can't say anything.

    Curse(d)
A punishment that will last for a certain amount of time, set by the punisher. If you're cursed, you're sent to hell. Also, your skin turns black and your face is gone.

    Ban(ned)
A punishment that will last for a certain amount of time, set by the punisher. If you're banned, you can't log into the game anymore.

    Ways of scamming
There are many ways of scamming. I tried listing all of them here. If I forgot any, please let me know.

    Common ways of scamming

    Dumb/simple ways of scamming

Tip: use your common sense! It will most likely prevent getting scammed.

I hope you learned something from this post! If you have any further suggestions, I would like to hear them

Hiya I'm not tryin to burst ya bubble but, we don't really need a guide about how not to get scammed. We all know what scamming is, some of us do at least.

Excactly, some of us do at least. This is for who the guide was made, if you read the first part of the guide. It's for people who don't know what scamming is or who want to know how to avoid getting scammed. In my opinion, it still happens too much, and after that has happened, we get a fancy post saying "I got scammed". My indirect goal is to make them disappear.

Well, yeah most forumers do. This guide is for those who don't. Also, I'm indeed working on a world to reach all the growtopians.

And another thing. There are many other "how not to get scammed" Guides out there we do not need a lot of other ones. And people will probably not know about the forums until they have had a little bit more experience in-game. So just saying in my opinion this was a bit useless and pointless.

Well, sorry but your statement is false. There's only one other scam-guide and that is NinjaPRO's. Also, I've seen many new people in game joining the forums. But, after all that, thanks for your feedback.

Actually what you have just stated is false. There are other guides on how not to get scammed. There are some created by Adrian671 & BenXxxXZero. So sorry about your statement being false.

Okay here are some links to other, well sorta finished guides on scamming!.

    BenXxxXZeros Guides - http://www.rtsoft.com/forums/showthread.php?29307
    Adrian671s Guide - http://www.rtsoft.com/forums/showthread.php?16967
And here's an extra one. This one was created by WontonGirl - http://www.rtsoft.com/forums/showthread.php?24487.
There are others out there aswell and more are still waiting to be created to help prevent sscamming. I like the idea of this guide, but we are getting a lot of guides in the forums too. I am not trying to start an argument of some sort I am just saying, Okay :3.

Well, thanks for giving the links. I guess I was wrong. I think it's not good to have too many guides on the same subject, but I think a few is good so people can choose between different guides. Some might fit better for some, some might not.

I don't think all scams end up in a ban. For example: the swap scam can't be punished (it's pretty hard to scam using a swap scam because of the new trade system features, but still) since the player actually pressed the accept button. I don't know if this is true, a moderator confirmation needs to be given.
