Thread: What size should I make my graphics?

Default What size should I make my graphics?

How is this handled, and how large should I make graphics for my game? How does the resolution scale?

How can I put maps together?

Is it just a static image or do I place them with the code. Is their a map editor or something?

It depends what are your requirements. What device? which target gamers ?
If you want the result very small, just choose small sizes and compress your Jpegs with a very small compression percent.
If you want the result the best quality, just choose large sizes and don't compress that much.
Anyway you should just test the result inside the game and see how it renders.

You can only scale down a pixeled image. Never scale it up.
Only vector images can be scaled up. I'm using the rsvg lib for .svg images in my mini-games.

You can put everything together inside a .zip file, and read it with the CL_Zip* classes.
Or you can also use Utilities/TexturePacker/ (from the sources)

You can also just put everything in a directory. If you're a beginner this is the best/simplest option.

No, don't inline it in the code (except you really want to have only one binary/exe file at the end with no data)

    Yes,
please download the sources of the version you're using,
    it's in the directory: Utilities/TexturePacker/

please also have a look inside: Examples/
where there are not only hello-worlds but complete examples that are almost complete small games.
