Here's to testing your IQ.
Ok, Crimson and INightmareI are kinda young so you won't be expected to answer this(I went to a tutoring school but mostly my dad taught me algebra):whistling:
Maybe people in their older 20s etc. should be able to answer.
By the way I am 10 years old and I DID NOT search this up
I did it last year
Enjoy

Mr.Santos kept ants and spiders as pets(what a WEIRDO!).
He counted about 15 heads and 98 legs in total
How many ants and
how many spiders

15 ants and spiders

HMHMHMHMH
How did you do it?*trollface*
Set it out like
x+y=?
y-z=?
etc.
And HOW MANY of EACH like x ants and y spiders

Nope
If it was that easy a 2 year old could answer it:whistling:
Like how many of EACH

Ants have 6 legs and spiders have 8?

11 ants and 4 spiders if I have the legs right!

ant = 1 head and 6 legs
spider = 1 head and 8 legs
15 heads= 15 ants and spiders

98/6 = 16 r2
98/8 = 12 r2

....I'm not sure what to work out next :sweatdrop:

I think some of my classmates know how to do it, how do you do it? I want to learn :)

Ok so
let's assume that x is ants and y is spiders and these are the only facts as listed below.
x+y=15
6x(6 legs on ants)+8y(8 legs on spiders)=98

15-y=x
So we put it into the other equation.
6(15-y)+8y=98
(We don't put a multiplication sign in algebra because then it gets confusing:confused:)
So we times both of the numbers inside the brackets because it has to or it won't be fair(I sound like a child)
so
90-6y+8y=98
90+2y=98
y=4
now we subtract 4 from 15
=11
11=x
that means
11 ants and
4 spiders
Geddit?
You will if you practice again...
and again...
and again...
until the end of time...jk
just a lot of times:sweatdrop:

In Ireland we do that a different way using quadratic equations.

You'll learn it when your older. Much harder than algebra.

Stop making others do your home work ;)
When I was 12 I got a high distinction in math.
I was in the top 3% of my state. Still got the certificate in its frame.
Now, I am not so good at maths. They say "use it or lose it" if you don't keep your mind active, you start to forget these things.
If I absolutely have to do it, I will. But I sure as hell wouldn't do it for fun/voluntarily (aka this question.) Occasionally ill do it for an IQ test or this mensa app I've got.
Or a real life problem, which occurs very rarely.
Those online IQ tests totally over-valuate your intelligence.
Just like how some stores label an item of clothing a size smaller than it actually is, flattery equals revenue apparently.

Ill take a stab at it.

11 ants
4 spiders

4 x 8 = 32 spider legs
11 x 6 = 66 ant legs

66+ 32= 98 legs total and 15 heads

Not many people use algebra in their daily lives(besides scientists and mathematicians).

I betcha no algebra in that test:ninja:
and I did that problem last year
part of
'Intensive Training'
to get into the best public school in QLD
aka
Brisbane State High School:sweatdrop:
I passed
Top 10 percent in maths(high as it would go)
And well,
that was Trial and Error...
because HOW did you get (so and so)

Meh. who cares:whistling:

Hehe, love seeing when youngins learn new things. They like to show off I suppose. Or to see what others think, hehe. I am great at maths, but I don't do it for fun, heh. Try doing Literal Equations. Those are fun!
