I know it means thousand but...how does a k represent thousand? Can somebody answer that pls? And no Wikipedia pls they use big words and over complicate things

I used to research the metric system for class, and if I'm not mistaken, Kilo (K for short) is a variable of One thousand.

I'll get a example: KB=kylo bites= 1000 bytes, 3k= 3000, got it?Kylo means 1000

My friend say,1k is 1 crore... Nub him and he get full marks in Maths.
