I was wondering how Novashell will handle light flares and "magical effects". For instance see this screenshot (http://ps2media.ign.com/ps2/image/article/726/726775/disgaea-2-cursed-memories-20060821095210798.jpg)of a game. How might one create that blue bolt of power effect in Novashell? Here (http://pcmedia.ign.com/media/previews/image/diablo2/sorc002.jpg)'s another example - from diablo 2. Will we have to create some kind of animate image / png with some kind of saturation applied? Or will there be flare/spark/beam effects?

I'm going to be adding a way to set the "blending mode" so "additive" and some other modes can be used, these should be handy for lights, effects.

I would love to do some 3D effects too (light ribbons, lightning, etc), but it's pretty low priority at this point, so png sequences are pretty much where we're at now. A particle system is planned.

That's cool. Having blending modes will do nicely.

I can't wait to see the particle system... smoke, flames, sparkle trails, exploding barrels, etc.
