I heard it came from Japan (I think) and Mexico.

Here in Mexico it is called: "balero", in Japan: "kendama". It's the same thing but they have different styles.

I haven't seen one in for years its basically a cup ball thing. A ball has a hole in it and the handle has a spike on it. The ball is connected to the stick with a string piece and you just try to get the ball in the spike its so fun kinda and hard too

Ohh I used to have one of those in like third grade except it was one of those cheap party prize ones. It literally entertained me for a good 10 minutes before i got bored.

Not sure if its the exact thing but it was something along the lines of that.
