Well being 17, my final high school year is coming up and I have no idea what step to take for a career in animation.
I was browsing quite a bit and found the Sail University may be the college I want to go to.

Art Institute is a privately owned college, not accredited by any state. ( http://petitions.moveon.org/sign/art-institutes-sued-for )

I have been using programs like blendr and valve's source film maker (kind of)

I am honestly stumped on this. I might want to switch some of my classes for high school to fit more of the career I want.

I am honestly not sure what steps I should take.
Maybe go to a community college and get some shock wave and flash coding skills.
Lynda.com maybe?

Full sail is a very expensive choice and i'm not even sure if its even accredited, hope you can afford it because student loans will be a living hell. Browse colleges for animation courses (and I wouldn't purchase any expensive animators until you goto a school because you can get ridiculous deals). Online colleges are nice because often they're on-your-own pace so you can get your semester done quick if you know the material.

I thought about becoming an animator a while back but decided to switch career choices as I still have a lot of time to decide. Anyways you are going in the right path by working with softwares and other tools. If animation is something you want to do you'll know, if you have doubt maybe not then. The college you suggested looks good but seems quite expensive, if you have the money go for it. Good luck with your career.

Full Sail is really the only accredited art school:/

Art Institute is currently facing a lawsuit against the us government for 11 billion dollars the last court ruling was in 2013

Full Sail offers an online course, for about 58k :/

My career plan is to be a police officer (They are only allowed to work 40 hours a week, before overtime.)
Great benifits, and retirement plans.

Animation is what I want to do for YouTube I guess.

I don't like school nor am I very good at, so I probably won't be very good at giving you any advice, although I have always been interested in animation and would love to see some of your future work. I have looked at some of the student work by fullsail students, and I have to say they look impressive.

Good luck.

Police officer isn't difficult to get to at all, you just have to be a good driver. If I just look up "Texas university animation" it pulls up tons of colleges holding animation and such. I wish I could gift my copy of adobe flash Cs6 because of how disappointed I was with actionscript, and I know tons of people want one to animate with, sadly adobe doesn't like such things. But it looks like you're more into 3d animation though.

Don't feel pressured to set all that up and pay cash per month for website, domain, etc. Just a first and last name on your work makes all the legality point to you directly for free with no hassle. If you're ready though, go for it.

*ack I feel like im mothering. I'll lay off

I want to mingle with both, but I like the cartoonish 2-d style :/
3-d was just an easier pick up tool.

I don't really plan to make a website or domain.
Trying to get a trademark/copyright would be annoying.

Websites and merchandise are far future stuff :/

A small youtube career is my thing, I honestly need to start with story board basics
Characters, Location, ect.

I'd like to see just funny animated skits and stories. Harder to get into whole stories and series.
Only thing i've done recently with adobe flash and crappy voice acting with friends, I made an animation demonstrating my experience with the grow game and why i'll never play it again aha (featuring my hideous laughter on a skype call when I saw the punching), but my stick figures and mediocre scenery would just be cringy more than anything. Maybe if you wanted you could take over a bit :whistling:
