Proton SDK is a terrible place to start.
1.Choose good game engine (Unity, Gamemaker, etc)
2.Learn it (youtube tutorials, read the manual, etc)

"make games"
Oh I'm sorry. I didn't realize that making a giant set of levels where you can include mini-games in them isn't a game.
Also, he wanted to know the basics. Soooo

Kranken: What coding language did you use for making growtopia?
C/C++. The language lesser languages are written in. That said, I've been using C# with Unity lately. Still not comfortable with it but whatever.
That was from the "Seth answers your questions" thread.
So, the answer is C++.

I don't know C++. But there's tutorials for every programming language all over the internet, just google it.
