Not sure what you classify as "cheap" but I used a Microsoft Surface Pro 3, It is brilliant!

Perfect for Growtopia as you can turn on touch controls and play like a big iPad but you get a keyboard so it's easy to type. Handles Growtopia with ease.

Also good for school as you can do like handwritten notes and things with the pen. I also have all my textbooks and things on it so I pretty much just carry it with a pen and an exercise book to every class.

They're not exactly cheap, but you'll use it a lot more than a crappy cheap laptop, so it's worth it. Cheaper than macs though and they have a pen, touch screen, windows, etc.

This is how I feel when people start talking specs and whatnot.

Get the Radeon version.

Whatever you do, avoid Intel GMAs.

You'll get around 25-30 fps with the Radeon, I recommend spending a little more for something that at least has a Core (2) Duo, but stay away from the Celerons. Upgrade the RAM if you can, I recommend maxing it to 3/4GB if you want to keep it for a while.

Check out the IBM T42

Thanks d0ge

I wouldnt get anything above 2 GB of RAM nor anything above 2 GHZ CPU if your purpose is just growtopia.
About the ibm t42

Cpu of 1.6 Ghz will probably be fine
Ram of 500 mb seems a bit low, but will probably be good enough.

If he was just going to use it for Growtopia, a smartphone would be much better, and possibly less laggy with a much better battery life.
Stuff like Google Chrome use RAM up very quickly on Windows.

Yea plus 100 dollars for 500 mb ram and 1.6 ghz cpu is kind of a bad deal. You could better get a more pricy pc for about 350 dollar with 2.4 ghz cpu and 4 gb ram which would be ok for most games (like prison architect, civilization V, basically strategy games etc) though if you want to play intense shooters you'll need a good pc.

OR

Wait for 5 years and the current best computer parts will be the minimum. Aka cheap.

1,6 ghz CPU is way below the minimum of standard games these days (2,4 ghz is kind of minimum of some standard games).
Also, 500 MB RAM is also way under the minimum (4 GB RAM is about the minimum)

So I really dont know why you say that those are high processing.

A 1.7ghz Pentium 4, not counting the RAM speed already, is 15-20x slower than a MacBook Air 1.6ghz, and it should be at least 10x slower than the fanless 1.1ghz MacBook 2015.

What a great "super computer" @bejeweled.
