View Full Version : What do you think of the electoral college?

Okay, I think they're trash. They do a lot of things bad, but here's two major cons:

- They can end in the peoples' votes being cast aside in favor of point.

- They don't allow for new political parties to come into prominence.
The first is self explanatory, and is why I think America should be a direct democracy; a democracy based completely on what the people vote.

The second, political parties affect how people think. If we only have 2, then we are stuck in a small (2) circles of thought, which is really bad and doesn't represent the people in a good fashion.

No assuming I disagree with it. The popular vote does not always win in the electoral college, defeating the purpose of winner-take-all states, and promoting a proportional plan. However, like I have read straight from a textbook, no one has found a better system. The American public is too ignorant to thoroughly consider the choices, leaving the partisans to their vote and no middle ground for the independents.
