When you think about it, there's infinite possibilities.

Like, a game could end in only a couple of turns or it could go on for as long as you please.

I'm asking how many different possibilities are there k. I'm sure that it can't go on for as long as possible, altho I don't know much about chess myself.

Well technically it could go on forever. What do you mean by possibilities?

2048. You need to do 64 (8*8) * 32= 2048

There is infinite possibilities unless you set a specific rule.

Example:

King is the only piece you have, your oppenent only has a Queen.

The queen keeps checkmating your King but you run away, it depends on you.

I think in the Chess app I have this would automatically be counted as lose.

2048. You need to do 64 (8*8) * 32= 2048

Not quite, not all the pieces can access all parts of the board

There are 400 possible first two moves (1 black, 1 white).

From there, the posibilities will exponentially increase.
