A comma splice is when you join two main clauses with a comma in one sentence.

I don't know why but I use comma splices when typing things on discussion boards, why do I use comma splices all the time? Is something wrong with me?

(I know I just did)

I sometimes do it too, at least they're grammatically correct, aren't they?

Most people that have English as a first language mix up their, there, and they're all the time. I don't think having correct grammar is a problem.

Comma splices are grammatically correct, although comma splices are stylistically frowned upon.

I give you props for knowing what a comma splice is. Instead use a semicolon, a comma and a coordinating conjunction, or a semicolon and a conjunctive adverb (i.e. however, consequently, etc.). Really, a comma to a semicolon is an easy fix.

But that is only if you care enough…

Are they? Let me check that…
