You need to know how to code. All games are made because of codes. Try searching in YouTube for some tutorials.

C++/C+ or Java.

Try to learn in Code Academy (just search it on Google).

If you're willing to put in the time, you could learn a programming language.

Or, if you just want to make a few stupid games on the weekend or something, you could use GameMaker.
As the name suggests, it's a game maker. It's really powerfult and simple. Oh, and free.

If you wish to make a mostly editable Super Mario software, Super Mario Bros. X (SMBX) is for you.

Though, in general, try using Game Maker?

People you nay ask are going to reccomend drag and drop over coding to you, ignore it.

If you have any problems getting started or need help you should pm me. Generally you could ask for help on gamemaker forums but its staying down for a bit.

My tip is don't start small with gm. Have a frusturating/fun two days and learn more than most do in two weeks making tic tac toe and pong over and over.
