I made a quirky little "lunar lander meets Super Mario Bros." game protype thingie last weekend.

It's not really a full game or anything but if you wanna check it out grab it here:

Space Mario (http://ludumdare.com/user/288/spacemario.zip)

It's a 2d tile scroller but done with 3d.

What do you think? Too tedious to fly around or fun? All I know is it's kind of fun blowing up blocks.

Flying is far too hard...

It's cute but not near as fascinating as adding options to Funeral Quest.. http://www.rtsoft.com/ib3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yeah it's kinda fun, but the flying is too out of control.

Wow, control is hard. i like the explosion grafx though..
the source code makes my head hurt.
it is fun, but hard.
TLM was hard at first too, until you learn when and when not to turn sharp, and learn that sometimes you have to back up.
just like real lawnmowing!

The physics are way too hard and out of control Seth. I took a look at your code and it's looking better than dink http://www.rtsoft.com/ib3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif, but some parts are still really messy (of course, after programming in direct 3d your brain could have been alittle fried). Akolade, I wonder why is code makes your head hurt. Could it be because you have no clue what all his varibles and functions are? http://www.rtsoft.com/ib3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Not having all the code in the includes DOES make it a bit hard to figure out. But actually, looking at it closely for awhile, it's starting to make sense.

Right after I read your post, my "Programming Role Playing Games with DirectX" book showed up in the mail. So maybe my head won't hurt so much after going thru the book..

this book looks pretty sweet, any fledgling RPG programmers should check it out.

Umm, that code has nothing to do with Direct X, it's all C++, the direct x code is hidden. Also, you book will probably just teach Direct Draw and not Direct 3D.

Ya, that's right, there is no DirectX in there.

The book has lots of 3D in it actually. that's why I bought it. It has several little demos with 3D characters and landscapes and stuff. A good start to Direct3D for sure..

I dont think it's too hard at all... It's pretty fun!

It's hard at first, but extremely addicting. After about 3 hours of playnig it I starting getting shakey and I only ended up with 9,200 points. http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
