I was running a BBS oh the long years ago you came out with L.O.R.D. (I guess I'm dating Myself) but at that time I was like 25 and was hooked. I still am.

From there it was Planets, and then an online game (also text) where I spent 4 years even coding and developing as volunteer staff.

I'm currently working on developing a very detailed world/storyline/setup but running into the very real problem of finding that no one is willing to write a text engine anymore that would support it. Most of the comments are text is dead. http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

My opinion is that is plain wrong. Why? 1.) I can't play 3d due to my eyes not handling it. 2.) Some people like reading and using brain matter and imagination. 3.) Same as number 2 but to solve problems rather than having a pointer give them hints.

What I would like to know is what your opinion is on text rpgs - do you agree with them being a "dead market"? http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/ghostface.gif

err and do you also err http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif at times take people under your "wing" ? http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif

I am a huge text-rpg fan... I always have been.

They are a "dead market" in the fact that no one is going to pick up a text-rpg in a video game store and say "this looks cool" and buy it.

But there is a good fan base.

Send me an e-mail sometime and maybe I can help you make your game. No promises, but we can talk about it.

I think there will always be at least some interest in text based games just because they are fun. No matter how many DVD's I own I still like to read!

Depending on what kind of game you're trying to do there may already be a parser out there that you can use, then you can basically script it. Do some googling for interactive text fiction.

Under my wing? hehe, well not really but I can certainly direct you to the best resources if I know what you're trying to learn.
