Jeez, I never realized LORD was that popular. I just thought it was some old game that a few thousand or so people played, but I never thought there was anything like a million simultaneous players.

And I still don't understand exactly what LORD was... was it sort of like a precourser to Funeral Quest, without all of the Flash stuff, and of course the different theme?

Similar to FQ in that it was a multiplayer game where you would play a certain amount each day.
Except it was a fantasy RPG setting.
Sorta like Dink Smallwood I guess, but with no graphics (not until Lord 2, and those were ANSI graphics..and oh ya, the add ons.).

You would fight monsters to earn experience and money, then go into town n buy weapons. And eventually, you would kill the dragon.

Lord2 was very similar to Dink actually, except that it was ansi grafx. It was also multiplayer but the storyline was really only for each player..

uh ya. Dunno if that made sense.

LORD was awesome... Still my favorite multiplayer game to date.. Actually the other night I was shooting some pool with two fellow members of my school's game development club and somehow LORD came up and they were both big players back in the day.

I still have my autographed LORD poster up on the wall above my bed! Great game!

http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/alien.gif yes lord back in the telnet bbs days...heheh LORD was verry much a Dungeons and Dragons kind of game..actually a text game but it caught on well.....what most people fail to realize is that the games fame was atributed to the fact that the storyline is sword and sorcerry based which is a verry popular type game....Then of coarse came teos(The exploration of space) I am sure that we would all like to see these type games in a Funeral quest type interface...wouldnt that be awesome!!!!! http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Dial-up BBSing was the only way to go... Telnet never did it for me... That "local" feel is completely unmatched on the internet today

http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/alien.gif I know exactly what you mean back in 1983 I ran a bnbs on my commodore 64 in the new york area it was called the Castle bbs...I ran it on a piece of software called cnet 10.0 we started with a 300 baud modem(boy was that slow) but we later upgraded to 1200bps finally we ended up with a 2400 baud modem...The board was modded to the max...it had great features...But internet wasnt around yet...finally we ran it on cnet 128 with a LT.kernal hardrive(the fastest hardrive made for the c64)..I had a great upload download section that yielded 1000 floppys per week in programs....The Lt.kernal was a 20 megabyte which for a commodore was like a 140gig is today...My board averaged 300 calls a day...which for a dialup was alot....we had 10 phone lines hooked up to it...boy do I miss those days...... http://www.rtsoft.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
