Again, it's about the difference between disagreeing and being abusive. It's about context and connotation and tone and target.

There's no such thing as "tone" online lol. I can't hear you. I'd say calling someone an ignorant jerk and a villain is somewhat verbally abusive. In what context is calling someone an "ignorant jerk" or a "villain" justified? None.

I'm going to trust that Solorien's behind the scenes evidence is there and truthful. The only thing that would possibly make me consider otherwise are (you guessed it), other players saying otherwise.

Word spreads fast in Growtopia. I know this only too well. If y'all can remember the carnival door ID leak incident you'd know what I'm saying. It takes a single sb to get news out there. And it took less than an hour for an uncrontrolable amount of players to start running amock in the carnivals.

It's the fact that news travels quickly and that people believe said news that rumours spread. Someone says that X scammed Y and people will end up believing it if the person who said it seems known well enough.

Even if you are more skeptical/smart you WILL see the broadcasts, forum posts and general chatter. This creates a metaphorical thick fog around the news of good deeds and decent, honest players. There are MORE people like that than you think.

Take the forums for example. Yes there are tons of threads nowadays saying complete nonsense "HURR MODS R RUBISH" and "DURR SOMEONE SCAMMED ME". There has ALWAYS been threads like that. But the general population of forumers are amazing people. You just see it less often than back in the day because the community is so big. Threads don't stay on the 1st page for long and if they do, chances are it's related to some insane drama which has over 100 replies of tit for tat, back and forth, to and fro' flame wars from the more vocal people.
This is the vocal minority spoiling it for the generally nice majority.
A LOT of decent people lurk more nowadays. Only posting when they need to. Silent and deadly, like a well timed fart :^). Let the drama queens spam and post only when it's most effective to. That post count isn't a coolness rating (if it was we would all have to bow down to ol' Boomer!)

You know why so many people complain about scammers? It's not because there are tons of scammers out there (there is a fair amount but bear with me on this) it's that a lot of people who get scammed go to the extremes to make sure everybody knows that they've been scammed. Useless but still they do it.

A lot of my time moderating was dealing with scams and telling people why they won't get their item back from being scammed. I can't really go into much more detail than that for I am forbidden to but the times where I could be free to do a bit more (like chill with people) were great times indeed. There are VERY nice people in between the seemingly endless crowd of the scammer vs scammed enviroment. And those good people are out there a lot more frequently than you think.

I will never forget the hype and buzz people got when we used to do mod events and stuff. There are brilliant people with polite manners and who are generally fun to be around. Those who were not so brilliant would obviously try to make their presense known by spamming swears. All for attention. That was met with a swift ductape and we went on with whatever it was we were doing!

So to all those decent folk out there. Keep doing what you're doing and we shall all continue to have fun while that flame of hope remains to kindle.

TL;DR Less QQ. More Pew Pew (or Punch Punch!)

I would disagree and say that you can see tone from online words. But I can't imagine a tone that would make the words "ignorant jerk" acceptable. Both have very negative connotations.

Books also have a setting, plot, theme, and background. There are events in the book that create a "tone" giving the reader a feeling of happiness, sadness, or fear. When making statements such as "This thread is incredibly ignorant." I see no tone other than that said thread was incredibly ignorant. I can't tell if he's laughing while saying it, upset while saying it, or just plain ol' monotone while saying it.

I see where you're coming from, maybe a better choice of words would be to say that it's more difficult to strike a specific or convincing tone online.

Try to sb that you're selling an item "more than what they think it is", and just watch the nastiness flood your chat and your world lol.

Actually, tone is most definitely something that is a part of written language. It's not an auditory tone. It's about word choice and sentence structure and context and connotation. Like I've been saying. You can google it if you want. Here's a link I found by doing just that... http://www.writersdigest.com/whats-n...r-writing-tone

This is the second time you've mentioned being called an ignorant jerk and a villain. I don't know what you are referring to. I'd be happy to PM with you about it if you want to refresh my memory.

What I'm saying is, Massacre's "tone" when he said what he said was hard to identify. I was also trying to say that there's no "tone" that makes being called actual names acceptable.

I'd rather not bring about that entire situation. It began because of a misunderstanding and when I confronted said person about the misunderstanding and notified him/her of what I really meant, I was ignored. So yeah, I'm good.

Yes but through that fog of player spam there are people genuinly looking for a trade. If everyone was against you the spam would be equivilant to what mods get on a regular basis :^)

I haven't sbed properly since after I was removed from the mod position over a month ago now, and I very very VERY rarely sbed before or during so I may not have noticed all that nasty spam. But my point is that it isn't all just doom and gloom. And this is what Solorien is getting at. A inspirational post to those in this community that are good people. And that accounts for a lot more than we think!

I understand that. However, it's not really fair to use it against me in multiple discussions if I don't know what you're talking about. Just sayin.
