    Default OpenGL 2.0

    I'm n00b so prepare to point and laugh.

    What is the downside of going to OpenGL 2.0?
    Is it widely supported or would I need to provide support via my installer?

    Before I get to the task of trying to get 2.0 running on OSX, I want to know what I am getting into at the distribution end.

    So, by moving to OpenGL 2.0 I lose a lot of older Macs with ATI cards...

    Kinda rough since that is my audience.

    What about Windows? Does the chart look similar or is 2.0 supported on more video hardware?

    It is mostly Intel that does not support OpenGL 2.0. Both ATI and nVidia has support for 2.0on most of their cards. There probably exists a matrix like the one Rombust found, but I'm sure Google can help you out

    It has been talked about creating a ClanGLLegacy / ClanGLES target for providing opengl compability for older hardware, but I'm unsure if any of the core developers have the motivation to code this at this time.

    It depends on your audience. If you are trying to make a game that will support everything under the sun, you'll want to avoid 2.0.

    If you're targetting computers made in the last 5 years, you'll probably be fine.
