When a parlour has been set on fire, how does the heat and smoke not affect the smoke detector?

Should the smoke detector be worn out/broken, after a fire? This could be a random event (say, a 25% chance of the detector being broken), or after a certain number of successful fires.

I think after 3 fires the smoke detector should be thrown out or burned...

If the stupid thing can't detect a fire, what's its use?
